A bit about Brian Wilson

Maybe the most underrated musical composer of modern day!

When most people think of the Beach Boys, they think of a beach band who did simplistic songs like Barbara Ann, and Daddy took the T-bird away and were mainly known for their harmonies and vocals. But with the album Pet Sounds, everything changed. Ironically, the song Good Vibrations was recorded for, but pass over for this album and was then released later as a single.

As a musician who spent years playing in bands, this was the song no band I was in could never get right. I played with serious musicians with decades of live performance experience, and this one was out of reach.

For the most part, people knew better. But we had a guitarist who suggested that we try and it would be considered a great achievement if we could pull it off. We spend months and never really felt it was "gig ready".

The song has 14 key changes, about 75 chords (or so it seems). There are tempo changes, various rhythm changes, and that doesn't even touch what most people would consider the hard part... the vocals. If you never really listened to the song with an eye on how complicated the arrangement is, it can add a new perspective.
